Beyond Coping: Thriving Through Somatic Connection
Welcome to Resilient Recovery, where we’re revolutionizing addiction treatment by leading with the body. Through our somatic recovery circles, individualized sessions, professional training programs, and soon-to-launch digital course, we empower individuals to reconnect to their bodies, self-soothe naturally, and confidently navigate the wave of any emotional state or craving. Whether you’re local in the Bay Area or seeking support from farther away, we’re here for you.
We’re Bridging the Gap
Addiction recovery has historically focused primarily on the mind, and sometimes the spirit (or connection to a ‘higher power’), but often disregards the body. However, studies now show that excluding the body puts the recovering person at a major disadvantage. This is because underlying all addictive patterns is an inability to feel safe and at ease in the here and now.
One of our most revered teachers, Gabor Maté, says “We constantly seek soothing outside ourselves to curb an insatiable yearning for relief or fulfillment. The aching emptiness is perpetual because the substances, objects, or pursuits we hope will soothe us are not what we really need.” Because what we truly need is a way to soothe, comfort, and regulate ourselves from within. And this is exactly why a body-based (somatic) approach is imperative.
At Resilient, we bridge the gap by offering a grounded, research-based approach that doesn’t require a specific spiritual practice, movement background, or chemical dependency. Whether you’re working through compulsive behaviors, anxiety, depression, or other forms of addiction, our practical approach empowers you to reclaim your sense of agency, freedom, and vitality.
Somatic Recovery: Why It Works
Did you know that for every 1 signal the brain sends to the body, it receives about 4-9 signals back from the body!? This significant imbalance highlights why body-based approaches to recovery can be so powerful. Our bodies are constantly sending vast amounts of information to our brains about our state, environment, and experiences.
The research shows that if we're only focusing on top-down approaches (brain to body), we're missing out on the majority of the information flow in our nervous system. That’s why we’re doing it differently here at Resilient. We believe in nervous system awareness and regulation as a fundamental building block of sustained recovery.
