Beyond Coping: Thriving Through Somatic Connection

Welcome to Resilient Recovery, where we’re revolutionizing addiction treatment by leading with the body. Through our somatic recovery circles, individualized sessions, professional training programs, and soon-to-launch digital course, we empower individuals to reconnect to their bodies, self-soothe naturally, and confidently navigate the wave of any emotional state or craving. Whether you’re local in the Bay Area or seeking support from farther away, we’re here for you.

We’re Bridging the Gap

Addiction recovery has historically focused primarily on the mind, and sometimes the spirit (or connection to a ‘higher power’), but often disregards the body. However, studies now show that excluding the body puts the recovering person at a major disadvantage. This is because underlying all addictive patterns is an inability to feel safe and at ease in the here and now.

One of our most revered teachers, Gabor Maté, says “We constantly seek soothing outside ourselves to curb an insatiable yearning for relief or fulfillment. The aching emptiness is perpetual because the substances, objects, or pursuits we hope will soothe us are not what we really need.” Because what we truly need is a way to soothe, comfort, and regulate ourselves from within. And this is exactly why a body-based (somatic) approach is imperative.

At Resilient, we bridge the gap by offering a grounded, research-based approach that doesn’t require a specific spiritual practice, movement background, or chemical dependency.  Whether you’re working through compulsive behaviors, anxiety, depression, or other forms of addiction, our practical approach empowers you to reclaim your sense of agency, freedom, and vitality.

Somatic Recovery: Why It Works

Did you know that for every 1 signal the brain sends to the body, it receives about 4-9 signals back from the body!? This significant imbalance highlights why body-based approaches to recovery can be so powerful. Our bodies are constantly sending vast amounts of information to our brains about our state, environment, and experiences.

The research shows that if we're only focusing on top-down approaches (brain to body), we're missing out on the majority of the information flow in our nervous system. That’s why we’re doing it differently here at Resilient. We believe in nervous system awareness and regulation as a fundamental building block of sustained recovery.

Real Journeys, Real Impact

  • "Resilient is the only recovery group where I've felt truly at home. Every meeting I learn something new about how to regulate my body and increase my somatic awareness in a welcoming, low-pressure environment. Everyone is friendly and makes you feel comfortable sharing (or not), and Beth and Chelsea are great facilitators with a wealth of experience. Resilient is truly a unique group, and I couldn't recommend it higher."

  • "I came to the Resilient Recovery Circles because I was looking for a more integrated approach to my healing and recovery. This group, along with the wonderful facilitators, has been exactly what I didn't know I needed. I leave every session amazed by how much awareness I can cultivate, helping to connect my emotions with my body—it’s such a beautiful, beautiful thing. I’m incredibly grateful for this accessible opportunity that Beth and Chelsea have made possible through the circle and I very much plan on being a regular! "

  • "Resilient Recovery is a sacred space within the recovery community. I know that when I attend I will feel safe and cared for, as well as connected with others on a similar journey. At some other recovery events I've attended, trauma-informed seems to mean diving too deep, too fast, into sensitive topics. Since Beth and Chelsea have years of experience working with trauma survivors, they truly know how to create an environment of autonomy, validation, and support. Through Resilient, I've learned what "yes" feels like in my body, how it feels to be mirrored by another person (spoiler alert: it feels so good), and practices for grounding into the space around me. I'm looking forward to many Resilient evenings to come."

    Micah

  • "Resilient Recovery Circles have been a transformative space for me. Each session combines grounding somatic practices, thoughtful monthly themes, and meaningful opportunities to connect with others. Beth and Chelsea provide a safe, supportive environment with their exceptional knowledge and guidance in trauma-informed somatic therapy. This community has been invaluable for my growth and healing."

    Leah

  • "While my 12-step program offers fellowship and tools to adjust my stinking thinking, Resilient Recovery circles provide a rare and special opportunity to work with experienced professionals who are knowledgeable about both somatic nervous system practices and recovery. Beth and Chelsea provide a safe and welcoming space to learn and connect with others in recovery or just reflect individually. I've learned new ways to relate to or tune into my internal physical experience instead of my spiraling thoughts. I usually come away with simple and practical tools or a new perspective I can use in my day to day. Some of the tools have helped me from getting overly worked up and to face challenging situations or interactions with more calm and grounding energy.”

    Amanda

  • "I have been working with Chelsea for many years, and her new venture with Beth has been an absolute joy and a vital part of my recovery. Their somatic practices give me the tools of release, respite, and resiliency in my daily life and beyond. I cannot thank them enough."

    Jesse

  • "Resilient Circles are by far my favorite recovery group I've ever attended. All groups have their place, but this one is a whole body experience that always leaves me feeling better afterwards. There's really something to be said for set and setting, and this group has both. The serene spaces of these circles immediately put me at ease when I walk in, and are just so pleasant and relaxing. Then Beth and Chelsea's guidance is always very enlightening and continues to add tools to my toolbox for managing my own recovery."

    Teija

  • "Resilient offers a warm, safe space for those in recovery from substances and behaviors, fostering genuine community connection. Beth and Chelsea create an inviting atmosphere with their positive energy, while respecting each person's autonomy in their level of participation.  I highly recommend joining a circle, you will leave in a more fulfilled state than when you arrived."
